MANY FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS at Missouri State University-West Plains were on hand Dec. 13, 2011, at Kellett Hall to give Janice Johnson, coordinator of the campus’ Student Advisement & Academic Support (SAAS) Center, a fond farewell. Johnson officially retired from the university on Jan. 1, nearly 23 years after joining its staff as a part-time secretary and tutor in what was then known as the Learning Skills Center. She became a per course faculty member in August 1989 and was promoted to preparatory reading specialist in September 1990. She became coordinator of the Academic Support Center, now SAAS, in July 1992. Above, Chancellor Drew Bennett presents Johnson with a framed certificate honoring her for her work at the university. She also was presented with a digital scrapbook by the campus’ Staff Senate. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
