WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The West Plains Community Band will present “Shades of Green – Songs from Ireland” at 7 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the West Plains Civic Center theater in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
The free concert is being sponsored by the University/Community Programs Department at Missouri State University-West Plains.
The band will present a variety of songs based upon traditional Irish music, according to director Rocky Long. He said the concert will include music by the famous composers Percy Grainger and Clare Grundman. The band also will feature several Irish folk tunes and a great march entitled “The Walking Frog.”
“I asked Rocky about the idea of doing a St. Patrick’s Day concert, and as it turned out, he already had ordered Irish music to peform this spring,” said U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Deborah DeWitt. “This will be a fun concert full of traditional Celtic sounds.”
West Plains Community Band members come from all corners of south-central Missouri. Every week members from Mountain View, Cabool, Gainesville, Willow Springs, Houston, Bakersfield and Pomona bring their talents to West Plains. Long said he would like to invite everyone to come and hear these fine musicians in concert.
