Grizzlies sign ‘big man’ from Ind.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The coaching staff of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team have added a “big man” to the 2012-13 squad.

He is 6-foot, 8-inch Ed Seay from Merrillville High School in Merrillville, Ind.

“I am happy to add Ed Seay to the Grizzly Basketball family,” Head Coach Yancey Walker said.  “He adds depth, toughness and skill to the forward position for us.”

As a senior, Seay averaged 14.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, one block and one steal per game.  He shot 46 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.  His best game last season was against conference rival Crown Point High School in Crown Point, Ind., during which he scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  He was named to the 2011 Northwest Indiana Preseason All-Area Team and was an honorable mention all-area team honoree in 2012.

“Ed is a two-year gem.  He has skill with his back to the basket, and he has great shooting range,” Walker said.

Seay joins 6-foot, 5-inch guard Desmond Buerge of Carthage, Mo.; 6-foot, 1-inch guard Wesley Staten of Sioux City, Iowa; 6-foot, 5-inch guard Arroyo Edwards of Milwaukee, Wis.; 6-foot, 5-inch guard Jonathan Tshibuy of Montreal, Canada; 6-foot, 3-inch guard Devaugntah Williams of Canton, Ohio; 6-foot, 3-inch guard Delvonte Pierre of Lawton, Okla.; 6-foot, 11-inch forward Aleinocov Azulphar of Norwalk, Conn.; and 6-foot, 2-inch Desmond Dorsey from Jeffersontown High School in Louisville, Ky., for the Grizzlies’ freshman class next season.
