WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Innovative, interactive comedy illusionist Joel Meyers will perform his unique brand of magic at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the West Plains Civic Center theater, 110 St. Louis St., in downtown West Plains.

Tickets for the event, sponsored by Missouri State University-West Plains’ Student Government Association (SGA) and University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department, are $8 each and available at the civic center box office between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays or by calling 417-256-8987 for credit/debit card purchases.

At just age 26, organizers said Meyers already has taken the world by storm with his progressive brand of comedy, inspirational and interactive magic, which is suitable for all ages.  Officials at Newsweek magazine have said Meyers’ performances “capture your imagination.”

“That’s no wonder because his intriguing blend of masterful stage presence and striking good looks makes Joel a performer you can’t take your eyes off of,” said Deborah DeWitt, coordinator of U/CP’s theater and events programming.

Meyers’ varied and impressive resumé includes everything from star performances off Broadway to private parties and corporate shows for numerous Fortune 500 companies, to appearances at five-star restaurants, countless charity events, fundraisers and universities, to a recent tour of China, organziers said.

“His uncanny sense of what constitutes entertainment is perfect for any audience in any setting,” DeWitt said.  “His combination of magic and stagecraft is not only creative, but unequaled within the performing arts.  Few embody the incredible technical savvy with showmanship, physical skills and charisma as he does.  As one witness says, ‘He takes his audiences on a journey that will forever impact their lives.’  Always working toward the inspirational idea that nothing is impossible, Joel has an amazing way of taking his audiences with him on his magical excursions, and he is only beginning his quest.”

Rogers Taylor, coordinator of student life and development at Missouri State-West Plains, said student leaders are excited about Meyers’ upcoming performance.  “We knew we wanted either a comedian or magician, and Joel Meyers is the best of both worlds.  We felt Joel was young and innovative and would definitely relate to students,” Taylor said.
