Fall Shooting Classic to benefit Grizzly Athletics
WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Area gun enthusiasts should mark their calendars for Oct. 20 and make plans to attend the Fall Shooting Classic at Ozark Sporting Clays in Caulfield, Mo.
The event, hosted by Rick and Bev Hamby, will benefit the Grizzly Athletics program at Missouri State University-West Plains.
“We’re so excited to be hosting this event,” Rick Hamby said. “Missouri State-West Plains is important to us and to the community. It’s a win-win situation for all of us!”
The Hambys recently opened a new 25-acre sporting development on county road 7360, 10 miles west of West Plains. The savannah-style park carved out of native Ozark forest land features a club house, a 10-station sporting clay range for seasoned shooters, as well as a nice zone setup for first-time shooters that helps the novice graduate to the next level, Hamby said.
“This will be an introduction to the sport of trap and skeet shooting for some and a fun time for the more advanced shooters,” Hamby added.
Shooting games available for participants include sporting clays, “Fur & Feather,” trap/wobble, and the beginner/novice shoot. The cost is $25 per round or $1 per clay. Certificates and prizes will be awarded, and a special “Iron Man” category will recognize the top shooter in a combination of all events.
Participants can bring their own shotguns, ammunition, and eye and ear protection, or they may rent guns and purchase ammunition that is available on site. They also may bring their own golf carts or ATVs if desired.
Registration will take place on site, and participants can pay when they shoot. Two sessions will be offered: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m.; participants can come at any time during these sessions. Lunch also will be available, organizers said.
In the event of rain, the shoot will take place on Oct. 21.
“When cool breezes rattle fiery autumn leaves in these beautiful Ozark hills, the gunfire in the distance may very well be the Fall Shooting Classic out at Cowboy Rick’s new place,” said Dr. Herb Lunday, dean of student services at Missouri State-West Plains. “We appreciate Rick and Bev for hosting this exciting event that will benefit Grizzly Athletics at Missouri State-West Plains. We invite everybody to come out and hone their shooting skills while enjoying our great outdoors.”
