WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The Inertia Dance Company from Missouri State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance in Springfield will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the West Plains Civic Center theater.
General admission tickets for the performance, sponsored by Missouri State-West Plains’ University/Community Programs Department, are $5 and available at the civic center box office, 110 St. Louis St., between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Children age 13 and under will be admitted free.
“As director of the Inertia Dance Company, I am so excited to bring the company back for an evening performance at the Missouri State University-West Plains campus,” said Darryl Clark. “Among the pieces we will share are Missouri State dance faculty Ruth Barnes’ 2012 premier ‘Spinning Stories,’ inspired by her many visits to Scotland; my own jazzy ‘Happy Endings,’ a piquant mix of swing style jazz dance and tap, and ‘Museum Interlude #1: The Swing,’ a dance response to the famous painting by Fragonard; the dramatic “Reverie’ choreographed by Missouri State alumnus Jason Ngo; and two works by Inertia Dance Company members. One is the kinetic ‘Shifting Prisms,’ a group work by Melissa Huebner and Dara Vint, and the other is the humorous solo ‘Sloppy Love Jingle’ by Spencer T. Ernst.”
The Inertia Dance Company promotes cultural literacy through performances and workshops, and provides service learning opportunities for Missouri State University students. The company develops public service initiatives for public schools that enhance learning through movement. These initiatives include dance technique and creative movement workshops for high school students and workshops for high school teachers that explore how dance can enrich and support current curriculum.
The mission of Inertia Dance Company is to increase awareness about dance by presenting live dance performances in high schools and the regional community, to introduce high school students to various forms of dance and creative movement, and to bring an awareness of the learning potential inherent in dance and movement to the public school community.
