College Republicans, Democrats to host ‘Your Missouri Courts’ forum
WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The College Republicans and College Democrats will co-host a public forum on “Your Missouri Courts” by Judge William W. Francis, Jr., Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in Melton Hall Room 112 on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus.
This free event is open to all.
In addition to providing information about Missouri’s judicial system, Francis will field questions on the Amendment 3 ballot measure for the Nov. 6 election. According to the Missouri Secretary of State’s website, the ballot summary of the measure asks:
“Shall the Missouri Consititution be amended to change the current nonpartisan selection of supreme court and court of appeals judges to a process that gives the governor increased authority to: appoint a majority of the commission that selects these court nominees; and appoint all lawyers to the commission by removing the requirement that the governor’s appointees be nonlawyers?”
“This will be a wonderful opportunity for our community and our students to learn about the court system,” organizers said.
