A TOTAL OF 387 PAIRS of shoes were donated by students, faculty and staff at Missouri State University-West Plains Sept. 30 through Oct. 18 as part of the Stomp Out Hunger: All Collegiate Shoe Drive sponsored by Missouri State in Springfield, Ozarks Technical Community College, Drury University, Evangel University and Southwest Baptist University. The shoes will be taken to Springfield Nov. 22 and given to Springfield-based Sole Food, a shoe collection project of Friends Against Hunger. Formerly known as Kids Against Hunger, this Springfield-based charity provides nutritious meals to the hungry in the United States and around the world. Once all the shoes are collected, Sole Food officials, in affiliation with Shoeman Water Projects, will export the shoes to developing countries. A portion of the export proceeds will go to Friends Against Hunger to help fight hunger while the rest will go to Shoeman Water Projects to provide clean, fresh water to areas that need it. With some of the donated shoes are, from left, Quinn Locket, Koshkonong; Sarah Agee, Conway; T.J. Wallis, New Bloomfield; Shelby Harris, West Plains; Katrina Blankenship, Gravois Mills; and John Turner, West Plains. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
