THE 2015-16 ACADEMIC YEAR will be ‘a planning year’ for the Missouri State University System, President Clif Smart said today during his annual State of the University address to the Missouri State-West Plains campus and community. Officials at both the Springfield and West Plains campuses will be working on long-range plans to guide each one’s growth into the future, he said, explaining enrollment trends will be an important factor in those plans. The university set new enrollment records at both the Springfield campus and systemwide, but the West Plains campus saw a decrease this fall, although the diversity of its student body increased. Smart said funds raised through tuition and fees play a major role in the university’s ability to offer excellent educational programming to its students; therefore, developing initiatives to attract and retain students will be a key component of the new long-range plans. Over 100 students, faculty, staff and community members attended the presentation. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
