SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Eight members and two faculty advisors from the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) business club at Missouri State University-West Plains attended the FBLA/PBL State Leadership Conference April 23 at the University Plaza Convention Center in Springfield, and seven students placed in competitions held as part of the conference.
Darian Williams, West Plains, placed first in Accounting Principals and Microeconomics and second in Accounting for Professionals. Derek McGinnis, Pottersville, placed first in both Public Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. Weston Mitchell, Cabool, placed first in Computer Applications, fifth in Retail Management and eighth in Computer Concepts. Shannon Hughes, West Plains, was fourth in International Business. Adam Burgess, Koshkonong, placed seventh in Cyber Security and eigthth in Information Management. Edward Schultz, Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, was seventh in Job Interview. And, Jim Listopad, Cabool, placed third in Personal Finance and ninth in Computer Concepts.
Medals were awarded to first through fifth place winners. The Missouri State-West Plains contingent brought home nine medals total.
By placing first, second or third in their competitions, Williams, McGinnis, Mitchell and Listopad earned the right to compete at the PBL national competition June 23-27 in Atlanta, Georgia, faculty advisors said.
Ahmad Alzubi, an international student from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, also participated in the state conference, according to faculty advisors.
