WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Another Robbins will be wearing Grizzly blue beginning this fall at Missouri State University-West Plains.
Today, West Plains High School Zizzer standout Christian Robbins, son of former Grizzly Basketball standout Jason Robbins (1994-96), signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for his father’s alma mater. This is the first second generation Grizzly in the program’s history.
“I’m excited, for him, for West Plains High School and for the Grizzlies,” Jason said at today’s signing ceremony at the high school. “We were really hoping this would happen for him. He’s worked hard for a lot of years for this opportunity. This was his goal, and a lot of people have helped him get to this point, including himself.”
Christian, too, said he was excited to join the Grizzlies. “The program’s close to home, and my dad played here, so I wanted to keep the tradition alive,” he explained.
“I’m excited to add Christian to the Grizzly family,” Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Chris Popp said. “He is a strong, physical guard who has shown he has the ability to really score the basketball. As he develops other areas of his game, he has a chance to be a very important part of our success. The best part about Christian is that he is a high level young man who I hope will be a leader in this program.”
Christian averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists during his senior season. He shot 43 percent from the field, 30 percent from 3-point range and 75 percent from the charity stripe.
His efforts on the court earned him first team all-conference and all-district honors this past season, and he was an all-defensive team selection in 2015-16, as well. In addition, he was an honorable mention academic all-conference honoree.
More signings will be announced at a later date, Popp said.
