WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Chris Popp, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team, today announced the signing of D’Shawn Coleman, a 6-foot, 5-inch guard from San Antonio, Texas, to the team beginning this fall.
“D’Shawn has great size and length as a guard. He has the ability to play multiple positions offensively and, defensively, can guard any position on the floor,” Popp said. “He is an explosive athlete and attacks the rim with aggression. The best part about D’Shawn is his character. I have been recruiting him for over a year and have been as impressed as much with who he is as I have been with what he can do on the court.”
Coleman is the first player from Athlos Leadership Academy, a new charter school in San Antonio, to sign a national letter of intent, Popp said. Coleman, who played AAU basketball for Jay Thomas’ Alamo City Diamonds, boasts a 42-inch vertical jump.
In addition to his athletic abilities, Popp noted Coleman excels in the classroom, as well, earning the Athlos Academic Achievement Award.
Popp said he anticipates making additional signing announcements in the coming days.
