WEST PLAINS, Mo. – More than $1,100 was raised for Missouri State University-West Plains’ Annual Fund when Pepsi MidAmerica, Savor Grill and Southern Bank joined forces with the university to host Campus Appreciation Day Thursday, April 20, at the campus’ Kellett Hall.
University officials noted 50 students ate the meal, featuring pulled pork sandwiches, chips and a drink, free.
Begun in 2007, the annual fund is different from those found at other universities, according to Missouri State-West Plains Director of Development Joe Kammerer. While many universities have nondiscretionary annual funds, Missouri State-West Plains’ fund is used to serve five very specific categories of need – scholarships; emergency funds; educational initiatives; campus technology, labs and facilities; and activities hosted by the University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department.
Kammerer said the annual fund helps bridge the financial gap when needed projects or programs are unfunded. Any amount donated to the fund, big or small, makes a difference, he said.
“We are proud to support Missouri State University-West Plains. The Annual Fund is a great avenue for the community to support higher education in our backyard,” said Southern Bank President Zack McNett.
