WEST PLAINS, Mo. – “Rural America in a Globalized World: A Geographic Prospective” will be the topic of the Friends of the Garnett Library monthly luncheon meeting Friday, Oct. 13, on the Missouri State-West Plains campus.
Assistant Professor of Geosciences Dr. Rajiv Thakur will discuss the contemporary relevance of geography, its tools and techniques; the role of globalization and its implication for people and places; and issues such as uneven development and the commodification of nature using a very inclusive approach, organizers said.
In addition, he will share insights about the upcoming annual meeting of the West Lake Division of the American Association of Geographers set to take place Oct. 19-21 in West Plains.
The luncheon and meeting will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in rooms 104 and 105 on the lower level of the Lybyer Technology Center. Parking is available in the lot off Cass Avenue on the north side of the building.
