WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Missouri Supreme Court Clerk Betsy Ledgerwood AuBuchon visited with several members of Dr. Kathy Morrison’s American Democracy and Citizenship (PLS 101) class during a recent visit to the Howell County Courthouse.
She discussed the basics of how the three branches of government work together, pointing out how important they are to our democracy.
She also discussed the levels of the court system and what they do, and how judges are elected.
A native of Alton, AuBuchon earned three degrees from the University of Missouri – a bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism, a master’s degree in health administration and a law degree.
She became the first woman to serve as clerk of the Missouri Supreme Court on Jan. 1, 2017, and only the sixth person to hold the position in the last century.
