Professor of Child and Family Development
Bachelor of Science, Missouri State University
Master of Public Administration, Missouri State University
Doctor of Education, Nova Southeastern University
What made you decide to specialize in Child and Family Development?
My family owned and operated two centers for 41 years. I thought for a while that I wanted to do anything BUT child care; however sometime around age 20 I realized I loved my job while most of my friends did not.
What was your favorite course in college and why?
My favorite courses were really anything related to child growth and development and family functioning.
What do you find most rewarding about teaching?
I absolutely love to witness the determination and persistence so many Missouri State-West Plains students exhibit. Many of my students are juggling a million things, yet they make college a priority; they are such an inspiration!
What advice would you give current students or prospective students?
Find your passion, that thing that makes your face light up when you talk about it. If you can get paid to do your passion, then life is good.
What would you say to a student interested in pursuing a career in Child and Family Development?
If you have an interest in working with children and/or families in almost any setting, consider Child and Family Development. It offers tons of great career options.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Gardening, woodworking and traveling.
