Hometown: Born and raised in Gainesville, Missouri, but have lived in West Plains for 11 years.
Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?
I choose Missouri State-West Plains because of the small hometown feel that you get walking into class. You feel so at home. I also love the smaller class size. It gives you more opportunities to learn and a better education overall.
How would you describe your experience here?
My experience here has been absolutely the best. I have gotten a great education that will give me a strong start to my career and have made some life long friends.
What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?
My favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains is being able to stay close to home.
What has been your favorite course? And why?
My favorite course has been NUR 204 (Adult Medical – Surgical Nursing II). It was full of information about some of the most important parts of your body: heart, lungs and the brain. I love learning about how the body works and what happens when they stop working. I can’t wait to use the knowledge that I have gained in real-life situations.
How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?
They have helped me from the very beginning. Not only do they make sure that you have everything you need to achieve in class, but they make sure you personally have the support at home with your family. On the very first day, I needed help finding daycare for my kids and they pulled out all the resources they had and made phone call after phone call to help find me the help that I needed.
How did you choose your major?
I have been through a lot in life and the one thing that has stuck with me is the urge to help people and witnessing others help one another. I have always wanted to help, whether it be to give someone a ride, or help with money, to just holding their hand and giving them someone to talk to. I want to be there. I want to help change someone’s life.
What have you learned from the Nursing Department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?
I have learned how to take care of my patients and make sure they have a good outcome. I know how to make them comfortable and help them when they are sick.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to go through the nurse residency program at Ozarks HealthCare. I either want to work in the emergency room or the intensive care unit. I also want to continue on with my education and get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
