The state of the not-yet-state of Missouri in 1821 will be the topic of the Oct. 8 meeting of the Friends of the Garnett Library.
The meeting will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in room 100 of Hass-Darr Hall on the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) campus. Parking is available curb side along Cass and Garfield Avenues and in nearby university parking lots.
Carol Silvey, former history professor at MSU-WP, will discuss what Missouri looked like, in terms of the mix of inhabitants, in 1821 and the years that preceded its statehood.
In addition to her faculty position at MSU-WP, Silvey also once served as the campus’s director of development. Currently, she is a member of the MSU Board of Governors.
