WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Missouri State University-West Plains will host an on-site registration session Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, for classes being offered during the 2012 spring semester at the Missouri State-West Plains campus in Mountain Grove.
Registration for current and readmitted students will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. that day in Shannon Hall, 401 E. 17th St. Students can register for courses being offered at either of Missouri State-West Plains’ campuses, as well as for online courses, during this time. New students should contact the admissions office at 417-255-7955 for application information prior to registration.
Two new classes are scheduled for the spring semester at the Mountain Grove campus, university officials said. Engineering Graphics – 2D Fundamentals of AutoCAD (CTC 197) is a three-credit-hour class set for 11 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Mondays that will introduce students to the aspects of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD).
“The basic premise of this course is that the more designs you create using AutoCAD 2012, the better you learn the software,” said instructor Norm Abell, Ed.D. “With this in mind, each lesson introduces a new set of commands and concepts, building on previous lessons. The text does not attempt to cover all of AutoCAD 2012 features, but provides an introduction to the software.”
Principles of Geology (GLG 110) is a four-credit-hour course set for 8 to 10:20 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays designed to give students an overview of how the earth works. Students will learn about the building blocks of the planet – rocks and minerals; its dynamic interior, including plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanism and mountain building; and surface processes associated with streams, groundwater, glaciers, wind and shorelines. Students will learn how to identify rocks and minerals, use topographic maps, and identify landforms from topographic maps. Optional field trips also will be part of the class, which is being taught by per course instructor Mary Ann Davis.
