WEST PLAINS, Mo. – It’s not too late to enroll in the short courses being offered by Missouri State University-West Plains during the second half of the 2014 fall semester.
The courses, which are being offered during late afternoon and evening hours, are designed to appeal to community members and students alike by providing personal enrichment for area residents and serving as a special interest course for students who wish to gain an extra credit hour or two, university officials said.
“Even though we’ve started the fall semester with our regular courses, these short courses begin in the second half of the semester,” said Dennis Lancaster, interim dean of academic affairs. “Like our other community-oriented courses, these are designed to provide information about a very specific topic in a short amount of time.”
The courses, which can run from five to eight weeks, focus on specific topics that will provide opportunities for lifelong learning, he said. “Plus, they are taught by full-time faculty or full-time staff members who are experts in their respective fields,” he added.
Classes scheduled include:
• Parenting from the Inside Out (CFD 197 02) – a one-credit-hour class that offers practical applications which go beyond the “how to” ideas to give parents and caregivers a deeper self-understanding and interpersonal relationship with their child. (Oct. 9-Dec. 5)
• Introduction to Game Development (CGP 197 01) – a two-credit-hour class that provides practical, hands-on experience with game programming, level design and asset manipulation. No prior experience is required to take this course. (Oct. 9-Dec. 5)
• Mobile Technology in Everyday (TEC 197 03) – This one-credit-hour introductory course will provide a better understanding of the ways mobile technology and applications interact with everyday life and learning. No experience in using mobile technology is necessary or required. (Sept. 22-Oct. 29)

Non-degree seeking students enrolling in one or two credit hours for the 2014 fall semester will pay $119 for a one-credit-hour class or $238 for a two-credit-hour class. Some courses do have supplemental course fees. For a full listing of tuition and fees, go to www.wp.missourstate.edu/recreg/costs.htm. Lancaster reminded non-degree seeking students enrolling in these courses will not be charged the $15 admission application fee.
