WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Don’t throw away those unwanted, unused or unsightly items just yet! They could earn money for the Friends of the Garnett Library.
Friends members are sponsoring a recycling fundraiser throughout this current academic year, and are asking anyone with items such as large and small appliances; any item with an electric cord, such as radios, televisions, games, toys, Christmas lights, etc.; and old metal items such as yard equipment, tools, aluminum cans or screen doors, to consider recycling them through this program.
The items will be collected by a current Missouri State University-West Plains student who is developing a recycling business. He has offered to give Friends 20 percent of the proceeds of any recyclable items offered to him as part of this fundraiser. All area residents have to do is call 417-712-3434 to arrange for a free scheduled pick up and mention the Friends fundraising project, officials said.
Small items also may be brought to the monthly Friends meetings, where they will be placed in a small bin for scheduled collection, officials said.
Items that won’t be accepted for recycling include clothing, books, glassware or ceramics, they added.
