WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Area residents can hear some of Russia’s finest musicians perform some of Beethoven’s greatest works when the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin comes to West Plains for a 2 p.m. performance Oct. 18 at the West Plains Civic Center theater.
Tickets for the performance, hosted by the Missouri State University-West Plains University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department, are $10 per person in advance and $15 at the door; Missouri State-West Plains students with a valid BearPass ID will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the West Plains Civic Center box office, 110 St. Louis St., or by calling 417-256-8087.
The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin features 18 of the best string musicians in Russia and is known for its mesmerizing performances, organizers said. The group has received critical acclaim in The New York Times, The Washington Post and beyond for its renditions of pieces by such classical composers as Tchaikovsky, Mozart and many others.
“I still shake my head at the difference between listening to a recording of classical music and listening to a live, classical performance,” U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Jennifer Moore said. “It’s almost like the instruments come alive and breathe somehow. It’s very special.
“Witnessing this world-renowned group perform live gives us a chance to hear the works of a timeless composer played by some of the best stringed musicians in the world, and that’s really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” she added.
The orchestra has released over 30 CDs and has won the Diapason d’Or award in France and the Critics Choice Award in The New York Times. More information about the group can be found at the group’s website.
