“ALL OF US ARE RESPONSIBLE,” said Dr. Tarif Bakdash while discussing the humanitarian crisis created as a result of the Syrian civil war during a Feb. 25 visit to West Plains. Bakdash, a Syrian-American neurologist who visits the Mideast periodically to treat refugees from the war, premiered his new book, Inside Syria – A Physician’s Memoir: My Life as a Child, a Student, and an MD in an Era of War, at the event hosted by Missouri State University-West Plains’ University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department in the West Plains Civic Center theater. Over 200 community members, students, faculty and staff listened as Bakdash detailed sobering statistics from the conflict. He urged those attending to write political leaders in the U.S. to do all they could to push for an end to the hostilities, which have been going on for years. He also joined his book’s co-writer, Dr. W.D. Blackmon, head of Missouri State University’s Department of English in Springfield, in reading excerpts from the book and signing copies for those attending. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
