    WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Jim and Cindy McFarland, West Plains, on behalf of Trillium Trust, helped Missouri State University-West Plains raise the minimum $250,000 needed in donations and pledges to endow the university’s third professorship.

    WEST PLAINS, Mo. – “Isolation and Connections in the Ozarks” is the theme of the 10th annual Ozarks Studies Symposium set for Sept. 22-24 at the West Plains Civic Center.
    ABBY BURNETT, an independent scholar and author of Gone to the Grave: Burial Customs of the Arkansas Ozarks, 1850-1950, will be the keynote speaker of the 10th annual Ozarks Studies Symposium hosted by Missouri State University-West Plains Sept. 22-24 at the West Plains Civic Center. Burnett will give her presentation, “Gone to the Grave: An Examination of Ozark Burial Practices, 1850-1950,” at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. All symposium presentations are free and open to all.   • 95 area residents receive high school equivalency diplomas

    Ninety-five area residents recently received their high school equivalency diplomas through Missouri State University-West Plains’ Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program and participated in graduation ceremonies Sunday afternoon, July 24, at the West Plains Civic Center theater.

    SYDNEY MCBRIDE, Lebanon, a sophomore at Missouri State University-West Plains, has been selected as a first team honoree on the 2016 All-Missouri Academic Team sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society and Missouri Community College Association (MCCA).
    SYDNEY MCBRIDE, Lebanon, a sophomore at Missouri State University-West Plains, has been selected as a first team honoree on the 2016 All-Missouri Academic Team sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society and Missouri Community College Association (MCCA). The award recognizes students from the 24 PTK chapters in Missouri who excel in the classroom, have the intellectual curiosity to pursue an academic career and cultural enrichment outside the traditional classroom, show evidence of substantial development of talents in academics and technical education, and have demonstrated an ability to share this development with others. McBride received a medallion, certificate, a $575 scholarship and a proclamation from Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon during the award ceremony April 13 in Camdenton.
