WEST PLAINS, Mo.– Artwork by area elementary school students will take the spotlight during the annual Art Around Town exhibit April 6-17 on the mezzanine at the West Plains Civic Center.
Sponsored by Missouri State University-West Plains’ University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department, the event, in its 11th year, will feature two- and three-dimensional pieces by children in grades kindergarten through eighth from area school districts, including Bakersfield, Dora, Fair View, Gainesville, Glenwood, Howell Valley, Junction Hill, Koshkonong, Mountain View Elementary, Mountain View-Birch Tree, Richards, Thayer, West Plains and Willow Springs. Thirty pieces of artwork from each school district – a total of 420 pieces – will be shown in the exhibit, organizers said.
“This exhibit is so special because it features budding artists from all over our area. When you view the work of these young students and see the quality and inspiration they put into these pieces, it’s amazing,” said U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Deborah DeWitt. “We also host this event to recognize the dedicated art educators who have worked hard with their students to make this exhibition possible.”
The exhibition also will include an awards ceremony and reception at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in the civic center theater. The works will be juried by art instructors from the region.
For the remainder of the exhibit time, area residents are invited to view the pieces during regular civic center hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
