THE MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team made history on Feb. 1 when National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) officials gave the team its first ever No. 1 ranking in the Division I men’s national poll. The historic accomplishment has been captured in a commemorative poster designed by university graphic designer Mathew Crouse and signed by Head Coach Yancey Walker, Assistant Coach Damon Francis and members of the team. Professional framing was contributed by Nicki Talburt of Talburt Framing in West Plains. This is the only autographed poster that will be offered to the general public, and it will be available through the university’s 17th Annual Auction Friday, April 1, at the West Plains Civic Center. Tickets to Friday’s event are $25 each and available through the development office, 417-255-7240. With the poster above are, from left, Grizzly point guard Lonnie Hayes, NJCAA Region 16 Player of the Year; Walker; Talburt; and Grizzly forward Quinton Pippen, an NJCAA All-Region 16 Team honoree.
