FOR THE PAST 17 YEARS, he has has been the “steady voice of the Grizzlies,” but at the conclusion of the 2010-2011 season, Dean Smith unplugged his microphone for the last time as the color commentator for the Missouri State University-West Plains basketball team.  Smith was honored by members of the Grizzly Booster Club and university officials during the annual Grizzly Sports Banquet/Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Tuesday evening, April 12, at the West Plains Civic Center Magnolia Room.  The club issued a proclamation praising him for his faithful service and giving him the new moniker “Dean of Grizzly Basketball Broadcasting,” and members retired a special Grizzly Broadcasting jersey with Smith’s name which will hang in the Grizzly Hall of Fame.  In addition, West Plains City Administrator Royce Fugate presented Smith with a key to the city.  Above, Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Yancey Walker, left, presents the jersey to Smith.  (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
