AN ESTIMATED 60 community members, faculty, staff and students attended a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house Tuesday, April 26, for Garfield Hall and the new TRIO Student Support Services program on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus.  The building had previously housed the campus’ respiratory therapy program, which was moved earlier this year to the newly renovated Looney Hall.  TRIO is a federally-funded program that provides comprehensive academic support services to low income, first generation and disabled college students in an effort to increase their postsecondary educational success.  Missouri State-West Plains will receive $220,000 each year for the next five years through TRIO to provide these services to 140 eligible students.  Missouri State-West Plains TRIO Coordinator Karen Ryburn cut the ribbon to officially open the center at 304 Garfield Ave.  Holding the ribbon are West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Shirley Butler and Chamber Executive Director Joanne Wix.  (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
