WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Area residents interested in starting a small business will want to make plans to attend one of three classes being offered in June by the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Missouri State University-West Plains.
Classes will be held in West Plains, Mountain Grove and Mountain View. The first is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Shannon Hall, Missouri State University-West Plains’ campus in Mountain Grove, 401 E. 17th St. The second will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Mountain View’s Chamber of Commerce office. The third will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, in Room 205 of the Lybyer Technology Center on the Missouri State-West Plains campus.
The classes will provide those attending with an overview of the critical first steps associated with starting a business, according to SBTDC Coordinator Darrell Hampsten, who will teach the classes. “The classes are designed specifically for those who are thinking about a new business venture,” Hampsten said.
Participants will assess their strengths and weaknesses in terms of business ownership, learn about the importance of planning, discuss legal and regulatory requirements, and identify sources of funding, he explained. At the end of the class, participants should be able to identify resources that will assist them in starting a business in Missouri; identify areas in which additional training or assistance for the operation of the business will be required; and discover if business ownership is right for them.
Cost of the class is $25 per person, and registration deadline for all classes is June 17. Seating is limited, so early registration is suggested. Area residents can reserve their seat by calling the SBTDC at 417-255-7966.
