WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Members of The Imaginary Theatre Company (ITC) in St. Louis will bring the classic children’s fairy tale “Puss in Boots” to life at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, on the West Plains Civic Center stage.

The musical production is being sponsored by Missouri State University-West Plains’ University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department.  Tickets are $5 each and available at the civic center box office.  Children age 13 and under will be admitted free.

One of the best-loved characters from the collection of Mother Goose stories and rhymes by Frenchman Charles Perrault, this musical version of the tale tells how the character’s legend began – before he was Shrek’s swash-buckling sidekick, according to ITC officials.  He leads his master on a journey to find his way in the world while using cunning and intelligence to overcome an ogre, befriend a king and win the heart of the fair princess, and ultimately gaining his master and himself a life of ease and happiness. Combining the spirit of the original tale with a fresh, musical mischief, this classic adventure is a laugh-out-loud treat, ITC officials said.

In its 36th season, ITC is a resident, professional touring ensemble of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.  Through the use of literature, folk tales, fairy tales and new adaptations of classic works, ITC is committed to providing the very finest in theater for young audiences and strives to bring quality performances to schools and community venues in Missouri and Illinois.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring a professional acting company to our area,” U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Deborah DeWitt said.  “The actors in the musical are members of Equity, the professional actors guild, and are seasoned actors.  I would challenge all area drama teachers and organizations working with aspiring actors to encourage them to see the show and experience the talents of these fine professionals.  I know the performance will be very entertaining for children and adults, alike.”
