Grizzlies sign 2 more recruits for 2012-13 season

2012 April 13 by wpadmin

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Two more players have been added to the roster for the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team’s 2012-2013 season.

Head Coach Yancey Walker announced Arroyo Edwards of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jonathan Tshibuy of Montreal, Canada, have signed paperwork to join the team beginning this fall.

Edwards is a 6-foot, 5-inch guard who averaged 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists his senior season at Rufus King High School.  He helped guide the Generals to a 23-2 overall record, a 13-0 Milwaukee City League record and a second-place finish in the Wisconsin Division I State Championship Tournament.  MaxPreps.com ranked the team 77th in the nation last year.

“Arroyo will be a great addition to our team,” Walker said.  “He is another young man from Milwaukee coming to West Plains to better himself as a student, as well as a basketball player.  He understands what it takes to win at a high level, and that is important.  For as talented as he is, he is unselfish, and he has a great feel for the game.”

Tshibuy is a 6-foot, 5-inch guard who averaged 14.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3 assists per game with Ahuntsic prep school last season.  He helped his team earn the No. 3 seed and a final four appearance in the CCAA National Tournament in Canada.  He was an all-conference team and conference MVP player, and he was named to the All-CCAA Tournament second team this past season.

“Jonathan is a big guard who will be a load for someone to try and match up with,” Walker said.  “He has a nice touch from the outside, and he handles the ball well and makes good decisions, but he’s big enough to post up smaller guards on the block.

“His basketball ceiling is very high,” the coach continued.  “We really like his competitive nature, his work ethic and his overall game.  He’ll be fun to coach and a great asset to our program.”

Edwards and Tshibuy join 6-foot, 5-inch guard Desmond Buerge of Carthage, Mo., and 6-foot, 1-inch guard Wesley Staten of Sioux City, Iowa, for the Grizzlies’ freshman class next season.
