WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Yancey Walker, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team, has added another guard to the 2012-13 squad.
He is 6-foot, 3-inch Delvonte Pierre of Lawton, Okla.
“We are very excited about the addition of Delvonte to the Grizzly Basketball program,” Walker said. “He has the ability to play multiple positions as a guard and is very effective as a shooter. Delvonte impressed our staff with how well rounded of a player he is. The type of statistics he posted during his senior season proves that.”
As a senior, Pierre averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while leading his Lawton High School team to a 17-8 record. He earned all-district and honorable mention all-state honors this past season and was the 15th-ranked college prospect in the state of Oklahoma by OKHoops.com.
During his high school career, he received interest from the coaching staffs at Southern Methodist University, the University of Tulsa, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, South Dakota State University and Sam Houston State University.
Pierre joins 6-foot, 5-inch guard Desmond Buerge of Carthage, Mo.; 6-foot, 1-inch guard Wesley Staten of Sioux City, Iowa; 6-foot, 5-inch guard Arroyo Edwards of Milwaukee, Wis.; 6-foot, 5-inch guard Jonathan Tshibuy of Montreal, Canada; and 6-foot, 3-inch guard Devaugntah Williams of Canton, Ohio, for the Grizzlies’ freshman class next season.
