4 teams advance in NJCAA volleyball championship consolation bracket

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Four teams advanced in the consolation bracket during second round action today, Nov. 16, at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women’s National Volleyball Championship Tournament in West Plains, Mo.

No. 9 Missouri State University-West Plains (26-10) defeated No. 16 Faulkner State Community College (27-9) Bay Minette, Ala., 25-8, 25-17, 25-13; No. 10 Hutchinson Community College (28-9), Hutchinson, Kan., downed No. 15 Wallace State Community College (33-8), Hanceville, Ala., 25-20, 25-19, 25-20; No. 14 Temple College (23-18), Temple, Texas, beat No. 11 Western Texas College (26-10), Snyder, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10; and No. 12 Redlands Community College (24-10), El Reno, Okla., defeated No. 13 Casper College (23-19), Casper, Wyo., 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

At 4:30 p.m. today, Missouri State-West Plains will play Redlands and Hutchinson will face Temple to determine who will play for ninth place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

In semifinal action at 6:30 p.m. today, No. 1 College of Southern Idaho (31-1), Twin Falls, will meet No. 4 San Jacinto College-Central (34-2), Pasadena, Texas, and No. 2 Western Nebraska Community College (39-2), Scottsbluff, will face No. 3 Iowa Western Community College (45-2).  The winnerss wil meet for the tournament championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

In other championship bracket action at 2:30 p.m. today, No. 6 College of Central Florida (34-7), Ocala, was to face No. 7 North Idaho College (23-6), Coeur d’Alene, and No. 8 Hillsborough Community College (28-13), Tampa, Fla., was to play No. 5 Tyler Junior College (30-6), Tyler, Texas.

The tournament began Thursday, Nov. 15, and will conclude Saturday at the West Plains Civic Center.  To keep up to date with all of the tournament action, visit the website at http://njcaavbd1.com/.
