Top 4 seeds still have chance to win NJCAA volleyball championship

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The top four seeds in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women’s National Volleyball Championship Tournament still have a chance to win the championship trophy.

All four teams won their second-round quarterfinal matches Thursday evening, Nov. 15, at the West Plains Civic Center in West Plains, Mo.  The three-day event, being hosted by Missouri State University-West Plains, began Thursday and will continue through Saturday evening, Nov. 17, with the championship match at 6:30 p.m.

In second-round quarterfinal action last night, No. 1 College of Southern Idaho (31-1), Twin Falls, defeated No. 8 Hillsborough Community College (28-13), Tampa, Fla., 25-16, 25-11, 25-20; No. 2 Western Nebraska Community College (39-2), Scottsbluff, downed No. 7 North Idaho College (23-6), Coeur d’Alene 26-24, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21; No. 3 Iowa Western Community College (45-2), Council Bluffs, beat No. 6 College of Central Florida (34-7), Ocala, 31-29, 26-24, 25-23; and No. 4 San Jacinto College-Central (34-2), Pasadena, Texas, defeated No. 5 Tyler Junior College (30-6), Tyler, Texas, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23.

CSI will meet San Jacinto and Western Nebraska will face Iowa Western at 6:30 p.m. today in the semifinal round.  Central Florida will play North Idaho and Hillsborough will meet Tyler at 2:30 p.m. today.

Second-round action in the consolation bracket begins at 10 a.m. today with No. 11 Western Texas College (26-9), Snyder, meeting No. 14 Temple College (22-18), Temple, Texas, and No. 10 Hutchinson Community College (27-9) facing No. 15 Wallace State Community College, Hanceville, Ala.  At noon, No. 9 Missouri State University-West Plains (25-10) will play No. 16 Faulkner State Community College (27-8), Bay Minette, Ala., and No. 12 Redlands Community College (23-10), El Reno, Okla., will face No. 13 Casper College (23-18), Casper, Wyo.

The winners of the 10 a.m. matches and the winners of the noon matches will play each other at 4:30 p.m. today.
