CSI, Western Nebraska to vie for NJCAA volleyball championship

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – No. 1 seeded College of Southern Idaho (32-1), Twin Falls, will meet No. 2 Western Nebraska Community College (40-2), Scottsbluff, for the championship of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women’s National Volleyball Tournament at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the West Plains Civic Center arena in West Plains, Mo.

CSI and Western Nebraska punched their ticket to the title match when they won their semifinal matches Friday evening, Nov. 16.  CSI downed No. 4 San Jacinto College-Central (34-3), Pasadena, Texas, 25-23, 27-25, 14-25, 25-20, and Western Nebraska beat third seeded Iowa Western Community College (45-3), Council Bluffs, 34-32, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18.  Iowa Western and San Jacinto will face off at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the third place trophy.

Vying for fifth place at 2 p.m. Saturday will be No. 6 seeded College of Central Florida (35-7), Ocala, and No. 5 seeded Tyler Junior College (31-6), Tyler, Texas.  Central Florida defeated No. 7 North Idaho College (23-7), Coeur d’Alene 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, and Tyler beat No. 8 Hillsborough Community College (28-14), Tampa, Fla., 25-12, 18-25, 28-26, 18-25, 15-13 in a five-game thriller.  North Idaho and Hillsborough will meet at noon Saturday in the seventh place match.

The ninth place match at 10 a.m. Saturday will pit No. 9 Missouri State University-West Plains (27-10) against No. 14 Temple College (24-18), Temple, Texas.  Missouri State-West Plains defeated No. 12 Redlands Community College (24-11), El Reno, Okla.,  21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 and Temple downed No. 10 Hutchinson Community College (28-10), Hutchinson, Kan., in a five-game thriller, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13 in the consolation bracket semifinals Friday afternoon.
