WEST PLAINS, Mo. – A Freedom Security Independence Safe 22 gun safe will be one of the many items up for bid at Missouri State University-West Plains’ 19th Annual Auction set for Friday, April 5, at the West Plains Opera House.

The safe, donated by Hirsch Feed and Farm Supply in West Plains and valued at $699, features a double sportsman rack that can store up to 22 guns, Hirsch officials said.  Made in the U.S., the safe has a durable two-piece roll form body, one inch composite door, electronic lock, four active bolts and internal hinges, a three-in-one flex interior with gray fabric and a textured gray finish.  It is UL listed for security, and the double-layered ceiling and floor provides up to 30 minutes of fire protection, according to Hirsch officials.

In celebration of Missouri State-West Plains’ 50th anniversary, this year’s auction theme, “Be True to Your School,” takes guests back to the rock ‘n roll classics of 1963, organizers said.  Dress is casual, but guests are free to dress up in 1963-style fashion, if they choose, organizers added.

The event, which is being sponsored by Café 37, will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m.  Among the featured silent auction items will be themed baskets, gift certificates for local restaurants and businesses, and a wide variety of practical and fun items, organizers said.  The silent auction will be followed by a live auction at 7:45 p.m. that will feature additional must-buy items, they added.

Organizers encourage area residents to check out the auction website, http://wp.missouristate.edu/development/auction.htm, and Facebook page, “MSU-WP Auction,” daily for the latest additions to the list of auction items.

Area residents planning to attend should purchase their tickets early, organizers said.  Tickets are $35 per person, or tables of eight can be reserved for $350, organizers said.  Ticket prices include a “mingling” meal of cheeseburger sliders, smoked pork sliders, mini grilled cheese sandwiches, Polynesian-style meatballs, wrapped sausages, smoked salmon pinwheels, vegetable and fruit platters, cucumber sandwiches, homemade pita chips and dip, and dessert cupcakes, they added.
