WEST PLAINS, Mo.– Officials with the Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) and Missouri State University-West Plains will team up to host the annual regional elementary math contest Saturday, April 13, on the Missouri State-West Plains campus.
The contest, for students in grades fourth through sixth, will get underway at 8:30 a.m. in Melton Hall and conclude approximately 11:30 a.m., said Assistant Professor of Mathematics Jerry Trick, an organizer for the event. Competition will consist of two testing rounds for individuals and will cover both concepts and applications of math, he added.
Ribbons will be awarded to the winners, and participants who score high enough in the competition could qualify for state competition later in the month, Trick said.
Students interested in participating should contact their math teacher for details and registration information, Trick said. Homeschooled students also are welcome to compete, he added.
The deadline to enter is April 1. Participants will be charged a $7 entry fee per student.
