BRITTANY ALLEN, West Plains, a student in Connie Yates’ College Reading and Study Skills (IDS 150) class at Missouri State University-West Plains, reads to a couple of students in Sylvia Hershenson’s third grade class at West Plains Elementary School as part of a service learning project designed to encourage reading and learning among elementary students. The students visited the Garnett Library to become familiar with the library’s services and resources, which are available to the public. Yates pointed out elementary students who are encouraged to read and who are exposed to the college environment are more likely to finish high school, attend college and succeed in a career. The visit took place on Veterans Day Nov. 11. Allen served as a Senior Airman E4 with the U.S. Air Force. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
