WEST PLAINS, Mo.– The Inertia Dance Company, the resident student dance company from the Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance in Springfield, will present “Peep Show: The First Four Years” beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the West Plains Civic Center theater.

Admission is $5 for adults for this performance hosted by Missouri State-West Plains’ University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department.  Children age 13 and under and current Missouri State-West Plains students with a BearPass ID will be admitted free.

“We’re thrilled to offer another wonderful program by Inertia,” said U/CP Theater and Events Coordinator Emily Gibson.  “We look forward to presenting the troupe each time because we know we can expect an exciting performance by an enthusiastic group of dancers.”

The company’s annual springtime season performance, “Peep Show” serves as the troupe’s main fundraiser for its annual showcase performance in Chicago, according to information provided by faculty director Darryl Kent Clark.  Clark said he is taking the company in a new direction this year, pointing out the bulk of the work on the program has either been created or restaged for this performance.  The result is a “bouquet of dance pieces that are alternately thought-provoking, visually stimulating and kinetically delicious,” he said.

The program will include premieres of “I Give Up,” a delicate quintet by Inertia alumna Victoria Billington; “Irrepressible,” a haunting trio by Inertia alumna Dara Nicole Vint; “Praying Predator,” a visceral solo by Inertia alumna Kristina Carter; “Gone Too Soon,” a poetically lyrical solo by Inertia member Melanie C. Sikyta; and the forceful group work “Rusted Gold” by Inertia alumna Abigail Lee Lind.

The program also will include Clark’s jazzy, sentient “Sun Dance” (2011) and Associate Professor of Dance Ruth Barnes’ solo “Continuum: Impulse.”

The Inertia Dance Company promotes cultural literacy through performances and workshops and provides service learning opportunities for Missouri State University students, according to the group’s website, http://theatreanddance.missouristate.edu/Touring.htm.  Under the direction of Darryl Clark, the company develops public service initiatives for public schools and community performances that enhance learning through movement.
