ANGELA REDBURN, groundskeeper/general maintenance worker at Missouri State University-West Plains, has received certification as an arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), a worldwide professional organization headquartered in Champaign, Ill., dedicated to fostering a greater appreciation for trees and to promoting research, technology and the professional practice of arboriculture. To receive certification, Redburn was tested extensively about tree varieties and identification, proper methods to plant and trim trees, and evalutation of tree health. With funding from the Missouri Department of Conservation’s TRIM Grant program, university officials were able to purchase the materials needed for Redburn to study for the certification and to attend a one-week ISA exam training program in Virginia. Redburn has worked full time for the university for the past three years after spending several years as a part-time student worker. With her new certification, Redburn will lead the campus’ tree care and maintenance programs and train fellow groundskeepers on proper tree care. (Missouri State-West Plains Photo)
