KATIE KAUFMAN, West Plains, visits with Missouri State University Teacher Certification Officer Scott Fiedler about the steps she needs to take to obtain her teaching credentials during Teacher Placement Day Feb. 26 at Gohn Hall on the Missouri State University-West Plains campus. The annual event, hosted by Missouri State’s Teacher Education Completion Program on the West Plains campus and the Missouri State-West Plains Career Development Center, gives students who are in their final semester of an education program, as well as education program graduates, the opportunity to meet with administrators from school districts in south-central Missouri and north-central Arkansas and apply for open teaching positions in those districts. Organizers said 16 administrators representing 10 area school districts interviewed 28 teaching candidates, who represented education programs at Missouri State, Southwest Baptist University, Evangel University, Illinois State University and Haskell Indian Nations University. Organizers said the event was a success, pointing out administrators appreciated the personal interaction they were able to have with the candidates, and the candidates were happy with the exposure to local teaching opportunities and the chance to network with administrators.
