COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Catja Weijzen, a 6-foot outside hitter for the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Volleyball team, was named the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division I Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 12-18.

The announcement was made Wednesday by NJCAA officials on the organization’s website.

“We are excited Catja was named NJCAA D1 Volleyball Player of the Week,” Grizzly Volleyball Head Coach Paula Wiedemann said. “She put together game after game of consistent play that everyone in the gym was talking about. Her performance in the Polk State Invitational was something to watch. She pounded the ball from everywhere and absolutely made a statement on the court. She is very deserving of Player of the Week honors!”

The week included her performance in games against Mineral Area College (Sept. 13) at home, and State College of Florida-Manatee (Sept. 16), Hillsborough Community College (Sept. 16), Miami-Dade College (Sept. 17) and Polk State College (Sept. 17) in the Polk State Invitational in Florida. Both Hillsborough and Polk State were nationally ranked at the time of the games.

During this stretch Weijzen averaged 4.53 kills, 2.59 digs and .71 service aces per set, and she posted an attacking percentage of .313 for the five games.
