Ana Estrella-Riollano, biology and biomedical sciences instructor, will present “Study Abroad Changing Young Adults’ Perspective: Costa Rica Story” during which she will discuss the trip she and seven Missouri State University and Missouri State-West Plains students took to the Central American country to study leatherback sea turtle ecology. The biology course utilized active learning techniques in the study of sea turtle biology, marine ecology, research methods, neotropical ecosystems, climate change and sustainability.

“After their participation, the students expressed more awareness about climate change impacts and the importance of sustainable agriculture,” she said. “They felt empowered to be active with environmental organizations in their communities. And, experiencing Costa Rican culture allowed them to learn about cross cultural relations.”

The luncheon and meeting will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in rooms 104 and 105 on the lower level of the Lybyer Technology Center. Parking is available in the lot off Cass Avenue on the north side of the building.

Cost of the meal is $10, payable at the door. Those wishing to eat should make a reservation by calling 417-255-7940 or emailing FriendsofGarnettLibrary@MissouriState.edu by Tuesday, Jan. 10.
