What made you decide to specialize in management?
After attaining my Bachelor’s degree in finance, I entered the Financial Management Program with General Electric Company (GE). I completed the program and earned the GE Financial Management Program Certificate. Eventually I held several management positions with GE and decided to pursue a Master’s degree in the field of management.
What was your favorite course in college and why?
I really enjoyed Comparative Economic Systems. My professor literally wrote the textbook and had a wide range of experience in economics. He was also a world traveler and had many great stories. It was an excellent experience.
What do you find most rewarding about teaching?
Our students at Missouri State-West Plains are great learners. They are ready to learn and I am glad to act as a coach and mentor. I really love student engagement and participation. In one of my business classes, students prepare and present a business plan. It is very rewarding to see them present their fine work in class. I love it.
What advice would you give current students or prospective students?
Follow your dream. Do what you love. If you love your career and find happiness in your job, the money will follow. To be the best your can be you must be true to yourself.
What would you say to a student interesting in pursuing a career in business?
Talk to others who have followed this path. Take every opportunity to network and find out as much as you can. Your college education will be greatly enhanced by your contact with real world business people. Meet them and learn from them.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time I love fishing and hiking. We are blessed here in the Ozarks to have such a bounty of nature and so many opportunities for great outdoor activities.
