What made you decide to specialize in computer information systems?
I had always enjoyed tinkering with mechanisms. When computers made the public scene, they seemed like the next thing to tinker with.
What was your favorite course in college and why?
Calculus/Differential Equations. Solving puzzles and problems intrigues me; especially when I can apply them to real-world applications.
What do you find most rewarding about teaching?
Experiencing a student who is excited about learning.
What advice would you give current students or prospective students?
Be a self-directed learner and then help others learn.
What would you say to a student interesting in pursuing a career in computer information systems?
Life-long learning is mandatory in this field. Technology is advancing exponentially, so it is a challenge to keep up; strive to do just that and you will never run out of puzzles.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Research and development in alternative energy, especially wood gasification. My goal is to automate the process of converting wood energy into electrical energy in order to supply power to computers.
