“Our instructors are very knowledgeable and have a variety of work experiences to share.”

Why did you choose to attend Missouri State-West Plains?

It’s close to home and they had the program that I was looking for. I attended Missouri State-West Plains from 1985 to 1989 and received my Associate of Science in Nursing. My daughter graduated from Missouri State University-Springfield in 1998.

How would you describe your experience here?

I enjoy the challenges that a small campus offers. I know my instructors and thrive in knowing they want me to succeed. I have been able to work around a schedule.

What has been your favorite thing about Missouri State-West Plains?

It’s close to home. I come and use the computer lab for most of my homework. And, they have a good variety of classes available. I do like the eight-week block classes.

What has been your favorite course?

I have learned so much from the HIT program. I can’t pick just one!

How have faculty and staff helped you during your time at Missouri State-West Plains?

With the smaller classes, it’s easier to participate in discussions. That helps in the learning process. My instructors have been great.

How did you choose your major?

I graduated from the nursing program here in 1989. I was looking for a different degree that would allow me to use that knowledge and do something less physically demanding. I was looking at all the online programs for HIT and saw Missouri State-West Plains offered it. And, they did accept some of my previous classes, so here I am.

What have you learned from health information technology department that will help you succeed in your education, career or life?

The program is outstanding. We have guest speakers who come and talk at our club meetings. The employers in the area remark that students from our program are very knowledgeable and are ready to work. We sure know a lot about HIPAA by the time we graduate. Our instructors are very knowledgeable and have a variety of work experiences to share. I love talking to students who have graduated from our program.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to work somewhere locally for the next year and then work from home. There are so many opportunities in our area.
