COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Thanks to two solid wins last week, the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball team jumped to No. 15 the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball national poll.
The Grizzlies (20-3) moved up three places on today’s listing from the organization’s home office in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were ranked No. 18 in the previous poll released Jan. 17.
“Even though we did not play our best this week, I’ve got to give a lot of credit to my guys,” Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Chris Popp said. “They keep finding ways to win. It was great to have Yannis (Mendy) back in the line-up, and Radshad Davis really stepped up for us. The exciting part is that we can and will be better! With the tough road ahead, we are going to have to be better.”
Still sitting atop the poll is Northwest Florida State College in Niceville with an 21-0 record. Northwest Florida has been the nation’s top team since the first regular season poll.
Indian Hills Community College from Ottumwa, Iowa, was at No. 2 again this week with a 21-0 record. Motlow State Community College from Lynchburg, Tennessee, whom the Grizzlies defeated Jan. 5, was ranked ninth with a 13-2 record.
The Grizzlies’ Region 16 rival Moberly Area Community College is listed at No. 16 with an 18-3 record. And Iowa Western Community College of Council Bluffs, whom the Grizzlies defeated twice this season, remains on the list at No. 22 with a 18-3 record.
