Amber Carr named assistant director of development

2018 April 3 by University Communications

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Amber Carr, an alumna of Missouri State University-West Plains, has been named the campus’ new assistant director of development.

Carr, who has served as the campus’ admissions counselor since fall of 2016, began her new duties Monday, April 2.

“We’re happy to have one of our own working for us in this new capacity,” Missouri State-West Plains Chancellor Drew Bennett said. “As an alumna and admissions counselor, she brings a unique insight into the needs of our students. She knows how vital this campus is to area residents who want to obtain a degree for a better job or career advancement.

“We know she will share her insights with our donors and friends, giving them an even greater understanding of the important role we play in the growth and development of south-central Missouri and beyond,” he added.

STRONG TIES TO THE CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY

Carr, a 2009 graduate of West Plains High School, served as a Student Ambassador and publicist for the Student Government Association while attending classes at Missouri State-West Plains.

Following her 2011 graduation, she transferred to Missouri State University in Springfield and received a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Communications in 2013.

In December 2012, she received the Missouri State University Board of Governors’ Citizen Scholar Award, which is given annually to students “who exemplify the concept of citizen scholar.”

Following her graduation from Missouri State, she worked two years as a producer at KY3 in Springfield.

She joined the Missouri State-West Plains admissions staff as the admissions counselor on Sept. 20, 2016. In that capacity, she visited with prospective students at high school visits, college fairs, Red Carpet Days and other activities and events.

NEW DUTIES

As assistant director of development Carr will work with campus alumni and future alumni, helping them understand the importance of their involvement with the university through fundraising and volunteering for its future success.

She also will coordinate fundraising and donor recognition events and help develop the department’s communication pieces, including event materials, posters, newsletters, invitations and social media sites.

“I’m thrilled to begin this new journey within the Missouri State-West Plains system,” Carr said. “From a part-time summer employee to a full-time staff member, over the years, I have worked in several departments here on campus, giving me a unique perspective on how the campus runs.

“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to continue working with such fantastic people who truly believe in new beginnings and endless possibilities,” she added.
