Area youngsters who will be in second through 12th grades during the 2018-19 academic year can develop their volleyball skills during the Grizzly Summer Volleyball Camps in July at the West Plains Civic Center.
The camps will be directed by Paula Wiedemann, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Volleyball team.
Elementary and Junior High Clinic
The first camp, the Elementary and Junior High Clinic, is set for 9:30 a.m. to noon July 9-10 for youths in second through eighth grade.
In this camp, volleyball fundamentals will be stressed in a fun and exciting atmosphere, Wiedemann said. Lightweight Volley-Lite balls will be used for younger campers, she added.
All campers will receive a T-shirt. Cost of the camp is $50 per person.
Skills Clinic
Skills Clinics will be offered July 9-11 for eighth through 12th graders. During these clinics, campers will work on improving their fundamental technique in passing/defense, attacking or setting.
The passing/defense and serving clinic will be 1 to 4 p.m. July 9, the attacking clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. July 10, and the setting clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. July 11.
During these clinics, participants of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, will improve their basic fundamental skills and develop technique through progression drills and individual/group work, Wiedemann said.
All campers in the skills clinics also will receive a T-shirt. Cost of the camp is $40 per person for each session. A multi-camp discount will be available for the individual skills clinics.
