Recruitment Specialist
What services does the office of admissions provide students?
The office of admissions works with prospective students through the recruitment, application and enrollment processes. The recruitment staff coordinates our campus visit days (Red Carpet Days), conducts presentations, visits high schools, attends college fairs and community events, distributes publications throughout the area and provides campus tours. All of our staff are available to help applicants through the admission process, and I work closely with Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Training Academy students. In addition, I personally serve as sponsor of the office’s Student Ambassador Program and I am the Grizzly Cheer Team coordinator.
What do you find most rewarding about working at Missouri State-West Plains?
It is extremely rewarding to meet students while they are in high school, or people who have made the decision to come back to school after several years in the workforce, and watch those same students receive a degree during one of Missouri State-West Plains’ annual commencement ceremonies. A college education can truly change an individual’s life. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the rewards a commitment to higher education can bring to many people.
What advice would you give a student about succeeding academically in college?
Get involved in something outside the classroom, if possible. Get to know your instructors and have open communication with them. Find a mentor or contact person on campus, someone you can go to if you get in a tough situation. That person may not always have all the answers, but faculty and staff should be happy to help direct you. We are here because of our students.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I’m a wife and mother of two, so I spend a lot of time with my family. I love the cinema and reading. Shopping is my addiction, and the lake is my happy place!
